8 INTERVIEW QUESTIONS EVERY LINGERIE STORE OWNER SHOULD ASK
Are you ready to expand your lingerie store?
If you’re about to hire new staff members, getting the right people for the roles is vital. Interviewing candidates is a skill in itself. You may be feeling nervous about the process.
Luckily, you’ve come to the right place. Here are eight questions that you have to ask:
1. “What drew you to this role?”
First things first, you need to know why the candidate is applying for this role. Are they just in need of a new job and willing to take anything that comes their way? Or, on the other hand, was this decision more considered? Do they want a career in retail? You should have the candidate clearly answer all of the above before you move forward.
2. “What’s your fashion experience?”
Of course, you need someone with experience in the industry. That’s a given. However, you need to consider the type of fashion experience this candidate has. Have they worked in other lingerie stores? Are they new to the game completely? Have they just finished their degree? Understanding these things is sure to paint a clear picture of the person. In theory, you need to know whether they are experienced or can be trained.
3. “What is your dream job?”
Let’s be honest – most candidates don’t get to apply for their dream job right off the bat. The chances are that this particular role is not the epitome of the candidate’s career. With that in mind, you need to see where they are headed. Perhaps they plan to pursue a managerial role in the business. If that’s the case, hiring them now and training them up is certainly a smart investment in the future of your store.
4. “How do you work as part of a team?”
Needless to say, a massive part of working in retail is working as part of a team. No matter what level this candidate will go in at, they need to be able to work with other members of staff. Ask them this question but press them for examples. They should be able to provide examples of times when they worked well with a group of like-minded people.
5. “How do you think we could improve the store?”
When you’re hiring new employees, you need to make sure that they are innovative and not afraid to give you constructive criticism. With that in mind, asking them how they believe that the store could be improved is a daring move. You should find that this puts the candidate on the spot a little. They don’t want to offend you. A dazzling candidate will be able to walk the line and give you some inspiration here.
6. “Can you rate your confidence level?”
If you’re hiring a sales staff member, confidence is key. Making sure that your new team member has what it takes to sell is important. Of course, it should go without saying that rating your own confidence level if difficult. People don’t want to come across as arrogant. However, you’re looking for a candidate who is not afraid to rate themselves highly.
7. “What is your best selling tip?”
Selling is a difficult game – and don’t we all know it. Many people find that it’s hard to pinpoint some of the best ways to sell and, indeed, upsell to customers. With this question, you will get an insight into how the person works and what their skills and expertise are. They should be able to give you at least a few answers to this question.
8. “Do you have any questions for me?”
Finally, you need to make sure that you’ve covered everything. At the end of the interview, you should ask your candidate what questions they need answering. A smart candidate will already have a short list of questions in mind. These should show you that the person has a passion for the role and is taking a genuine interest in the lingerie store.
